In theory, copyright law protects the creators. In practice, enforcement is costly, slow, and often intimidating.
Common Options
Creators typically have access to:
• DMCA takedown notices
• Platform reporting tools
• Cease-and-desist letters
• Small claims or copyright tribunals
Each comes with tradeoffs.
DMCA: Fast but Limited
Takedowns can remove content quickly, but they:
• Do not compensate creators
• Can be ignored or countered
• Often lead to reposting elsewhere

Legal Action: Powerful but Expensive
Filing a lawsuit or small claim can be effective — but the legal fees, jurisdiction issues, and time commitment deter most artists.
Why Most Cases Die Quietly
Brands know many creators will just walk away. Silence then becomes a business strategy.

The Gap Between Law and Reality
Copyright exists, but access to justice is uneven. Enforcement favors those with resources.
